EV chargers in Dubai: find a public station or install one at home?
Searching for an EV charger in Dubai can mean two very different things: locating a public charging station today, or arranging a dedicated charger for a villa, apartment or business. Choose the right path below; the equipment, cost and permissions are different.

Find a public EV charger
Already driving an EV and looking for a station near you? Use DEWA's official Green Charger locator to check Dubai station locations and reported status.
- Check connector type (Type 2 AC vs CCS/CHAdeMO DC) against your vehicle.
- Check availability, access conditions, operating hours and session price in the operator's own app.
- Do not assume a published location or third-party map is live and working.
Install a home EV charger
Want to charge regularly where you park? Compare compatible hardware and a complete installation quote from qualified Dubai contractors.
- Confirm parking rights and building/owner approvals for apartments or shared parking.
- Check electrical supply, safe cable route, protection, equipment and commissioning.
- Ask for a clear scope covering installation, permits/approvals and warranty.
How does home charging compare with public EV charging in Dubai?
For a home charger installed behind your DEWA household meter, DEWA says EV electricity consumption is added to your regular residential bill. The applicable electricity slab, fuel surcharge and VAT affect the actual marginal cost. Public EV charging is billed separately using the charge-point operator's published terms and rates. DEWA's EV guidance explains the distinction.
| Question | Home charger | Public station |
|---|---|---|
| Where? | Your allocated property parking space, subject to permissions | Operator-controlled parking or roadside charging facilities |
| What do you pay? | Upfront equipment/installation and ongoing electricity on your applicable home bill | Each session according to the operator's current charging tariff and conditions |
| Typical convenience | Charge while parked at home, subject to electrical capacity | Useful away from home; may involve access or queues |
| What must be checked? | Approvals, supply rating, electrical safety, warranty and installation scope | Connector, charging power, live status, payment method, access and parking terms |

Which Dubai homes are ready for an EV charger?
Villas and townhouses
Start with where the vehicle parks and the distance to the distribution board. An electrical professional needs to assess circuit capacity, cable routing, protection, installation access and any relevant property/community requirements. A charger marketed as 22 kW does not mean your car or supply can provide that charging rate.
Apartments, JVC, Dubai Marina and shared parking
Ask your building or community management about allocated parking, approved contractors, cable routes, energy billing and any approval procedure before ordering equipment. Shared-car-park installation can require coordination that is not part of the charger box price. See our Dubai apartment charging guide and installation approvals guide.
Offices, fleets and commercial sites
Multi-user charging may require load management, access controls, maintenance support, suitable metering and operator arrangements. Request a site survey rather than choosing hardware from a generic advertisement.

Frequently asked questions about EV chargers in Dubai
Where can I find a public EV charger near me?
Use DEWA's official Green Charger locations map for its Dubai network. Independent operator apps may be needed for non-DEWA stations. Confirm the station's actual connector, status and pricing before travelling.
Can I install an EV charger in an apartment parking bay?
It depends on your parking rights, building management's permissions, available electrical infrastructure and the proposed installation design. Start by checking the building procedure and obtaining a competent installer assessment.
Is public AC charging priced like charging at home?
No. DEWA says a home charger behind the residential meter is billed with normal residential electricity consumption, while the public EV Green Charger service has separate rates and payment arrangements.
Does Dubai offer a guaranteed nighttime EV electricity discount?
DEWA's published general residential tariff uses consumption slabs rather than a universal time-of-use discount. Do not assume home charging is automatically cheaper at night unless your specific eligible tariff explicitly says so.
Do I need a Type 2 cable?
It depends on the vehicle's regional inlet and whether the station or home wallbox has its own tethered cable. For an untethered Type 2 AC station, you may need a matching compatible lead. See our Type 2 cable buying guide.
Ready to compare installed charger options?
Buying hardware is only one piece of the job. Our wallbox comparison explains the equipment choices; the installation cost guide covers the scope that affects pricing. Request quotes only when your building permissions and parking situation are clear enough to explain to an installer.
