Tesla’s UAE Wall Connector can supply up to 22 kW on suitable three-phase installations, but Tesla’s UAE onboard-charger guidance lists up to 7.4 kW on 230 V single-phase and 11 kW on supported three-phase supplies for the models covered. Your actual result depends on the vehicle, supply, circuit and installation settings.
1. Which home charging option should you consider?
| Option | When it makes sense | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Wall Connector | Regular overnight charging and app-connected features | Vehicle’s AC limit, supply phase, cable route, installer, commissioning and Wi‑Fi |
| Tesla Mobile Connector | Portable use with an appropriately rated, suitable socket and approved adapter | Socket safety, permitted current, adapter compatibility and suitability for recurring use |
| Compatible third-party AC wallbox | Comparing features, installation support or other household EVs | Correct Type 2 interface, vehicle compatibility, after-sales support and installer warranty |
Never assume a normal domestic socket is suitable for high-current continuous charging. Have an electrician confirm the socket and circuit before use.
2. AC charging speed: what 7.4 kW, 11 kW and 22 kW mean
Charging speed is constrained by the lowest relevant limit: the EV’s onboard AC charger, the wallbox configuration and your electrical installation. Tesla publishes a Wall Connector hardware rating of up to 22 kW, but its UAE vehicle guidance lists 7.4 kW single-phase and 11 kW on supported three-phase connections for the models in its table.
A faster-rated wallbox is not automatically better value. Ask your installer to identify your Tesla’s specific onboard AC limit before recommending equipment or proposing a panel upgrade. DC Supercharging is a separate charging method and should not be confused with home AC output.
3. Dubai villas versus apartments
Villa or townhouse: discuss the location of the distribution board, spare electrical capacity, charger position, cable route, outdoor protection and whether additional works are needed.
Apartment or managed building: ask management about allocated parking, common-area cable routing, metering, NOC and access rules before purchasing hardware. Feasibility is property-specific.
DEWA says that home charging can be installed behind the customer’s meter and that DEWA-approved electrical contractors should carry out electrical installations in Dubai. Property-management permissions may be separate.
4. What a proper installation quote should include
- Site survey and agreed wallbox location
- Supply assessment, circuit protection and load-management needs
- Cable length, containment, civil works and any necessary access permissions
- Itemised hardware price versus installation labour and materials
- Testing, commissioning, user registration, warranty and handover
Tesla states that the Wall Connector purchase price excludes installation and testing. The UAE Wall Connector installation process also includes commissioning, Wi‑Fi setup and customer registration to enable relevant Tesla-app features.
5. Next steps before you book
- Check your Tesla model, variant and charging specification.
- Photograph the distribution-board area and note the approximate distance to the parking space.
- Confirm building or community permissions if relevant.
- Compare two or more itemised installer quotations using the same scope.
- Ask who handles commissioning, warranty support and any follow-up visit.
Common questions
Will a 22 kW Tesla Wall Connector charge my car at 22 kW?
Not necessarily. The vehicle’s onboard AC charger and the property’s electrical supply can limit the charging rate. Tesla’s UAE model guidance lists lower onboard limits than the wallbox hardware maximum.
Can a Tesla Wall Connector charge non-Tesla EVs?
Tesla’s UAE Wall Connector product information says it supports Type 2 charging ports. Verify the other EV’s inlet, charging capabilities and the connector’s configured access settings.
Do I need a DEWA-approved contractor?
DEWA recommends approved electrical contractors for electrical equipment installation in Dubai, including home EV chargers. Building-management permissions may also apply.
Can I install it in an apartment building?
Potentially, depending on the available electrical infrastructure, parking rights, cable routing, metering and approvals. Check with management before buying a charger.
