Before buying a Type 2 charging cable, check whether the wallbox already has a tethered cable, whether your car's port is Type 2 and what cable current, phase configuration and length are required. Do not treat an unverified adapter or extension lead as a shortcut to an installation problem.
Which accessories are worth considering?
| Accessory | When useful | Before buying | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2 to Type 2 AC cable | When you use an untethered Type 2 AC socket at home or at a public AC charger | Confirm port types, cable rating and phases, correct length, genuine safety certification and car/charger guidance | Only if needed |
| Charging-cable wall hook / holster | Keeping the garage cable off the floor and reducing trip hazards | Check mounting surface, plug fit and load capacity; do not bend cables too tightly | Practical low-cost extra |
| Cable carry bag | Keeping a spare portable Type 2 cable clean and organized in the boot | Check bag dimensions, strap durability and whether the cable is dry before storing | Optional convenience |
| Outdoor protection or pedestal | Exposed parking or locations without a suitable wall to mount equipment | Consult the installer on environmental rating, drainage, access and secure mounting | Professional assessment |
| Load-management meter / controller | Sites with limited electrical capacity or more than one EV charger | Must be compatible with the chosen wallbox and designed/commissioned by the installer | Site-dependent |
| Generic charging adapters / extension leads | Usually not an appropriate solution for a mismatched charging installation | Use only manufacturer-approved equipment confirmed safe for the vehicle, connector and electrical setup | Do not buy without verification |
Type 2 charging cables: what the numbers mean
For AC charging, the matching connector shape alone does not establish the cable's correct current or phase rating. A cable advertised for 22 kW does not make an 11 kW vehicle charge at 22 kW. Confirm both ends of the connection and whether the charger already has its own fixed cable.
- Connector: Type 2 to Type 2 is common for compatible AC socket-to-car connections; check the precise vehicle region and charging station.
- Electrical rating: verify the cable's amp rating, number of phases, genuine test/certification documentation and suitability for your equipment.
- Length: the cable should reach without stretching, pinch points or trip hazards; keep the charging inlet location in mind.
- Warranty: confirm original supply, seller support and return terms rather than choosing the cheapest anonymous listing.
Accessories we would prioritize by use case
Cable storage
First check whether your charger includes a hook. If not, a suitable wall-mounted holder can organize the cable without adding an electrical component.
Rated spare cable
Useful only if your car and the AC stations you use require a cable you supply yourself. Check Type 2 fit and correct rating.
Professional mounting
Discuss a suitable sheltered position or pedestal with the installer; electrical protection and drainage matter more than cosmetic covers.
Where can I browse charging accessories in the UAE?
Our independent EV charging gear directory collects example UAE shopping options for Type 2 charging cables, holders and storage bags alongside practical compatibility checks. The links are currently editorial and unpaid; DubaiChargeHub does not sell these goods.
What about affiliate product links?
DubaiChargeHub intends to add optional links to carefully reviewed UAE-market products, such as organizers and properly specified Type 2 cables, once eligibility, stock, seller quality and commercial disclosures are verified.
There are no paid affiliate product recommendations on this page today. We will clearly identify any future sponsored placement or commission-earning link, and safety-related items will not be selected simply because they offer a higher commission.
Before ordering any hardware
- Check your vehicle's actual AC charge port and the plug type of the charger or public station.
- Ask whether the installer supplies a cable, hook, mounting hardware, earthing/protection and any smart energy meter in the quote.
- Check that the cable and accessories do not interfere with the manufacturer's installation or warranty instructions.
- For electrical adapters, portable EVSE or supply modifications, consult the car/charger manufacturer and a qualified local electrician.
- If you have not chosen your wallbox yet, start with our charger comparison instead.
Common questions
Do I need to buy an extra Type 2 cable for a home charger?
Not if your charger already has an attached cable that reaches the car. An untethered socket-style charger usually requires a compatible separate cable.
Is a 22 kW Type 2 cable faster on any EV?
No. Actual AC charging speed is constrained by the car, power supply and charging equipment. The correct cable rating is a safety and compatibility matter.
Are Type 2 to GB/T adapters safe for imported EVs?
Do not assume so. Verify the exact vehicle, direction of conversion, permitted charging mode and manufacturer's approvals with qualified specialists before buying or using any adapter.
Can I put a generic weatherproof cover over my wallbox?
Ask the installer or manufacturer. A cover must not compromise ventilation, accessibility, ingress protection or required installation clearances.
