Compare home EV chargers for Dubai

Tesla Wall Connector, Wallbox Pulsar Plus and ABB Terra AC are examples of established AC wallbox families. The best fit depends on your car’s actual charging limit, your villa or building, support in the UAE and the total installed cost — not just the number of kilowatts on the box.

Before comparing brands: your car and electrical supply set the practical limit

A 22 kW-rated wallbox may deliver much less if the vehicle has an 11 kW AC onboard charger, if only single-phase supply is available or if the circuit is configured at a lower current. DEWA says that home chargers can be installed behind the customer meter, using a DEWA-approved electrical contractor.

Three wallboxes worth comparing

Tesla ecosystem

Tesla Wall Connector

Up to 22 kW hardware capability in Tesla UAE documentation, Type 2 compatibility, Tesla app support and access controls. Actual vehicle/supply limit applies.

Compact smart charger

Wallbox Pulsar Plus

Versions documented at 7.4, 11 and 22 kW, with app controls and optional energy-management features. Confirm UAE / IEC version and included extras.

Connected infrastructure

ABB Terra AC

ABB lists IEC versions up to 7.4 kW single phase and 22 kW three phase, with Type 2 options, connectivity and load-management integration.

These are illustrative examples, not paid placements or a ranking. They have different regional versions. Availability, warranty and installation price in Dubai must be confirmed with the local seller or installer.

We deliberately omit fluctuating retail prices and performance rankings until installation-inclusive quotations and comparable local evidence are available. Charging electricity cost is a different question from buying and installing the wallbox.

Six checks before deciding

  1. Exact car: confirm the charging inlet and onboard AC power for your UAE model and trim.
  2. Power supply: is usable supply single phase or three phase, and how much spare capacity is actually available?
  3. Safety & protection: ask the electrician to specify circuit protections, isolation, earthing and outdoor suitability as applicable.
  4. Smart features: establish whether app scheduling, access control or load balancing needs extra hardware, a subscription or Wi‑Fi.
  5. Site requirements: cable route, parking permissions, any community/building NOC, civil works and commissioning.
  6. Total installed price: compare itemised quotes with consistent inclusions and written charger and installation warranties.

Is 22 kW worth paying extra for?

Only if your vehicle, electrical service and permissions support the additional capability and you actually need it. Tesla lists an onboard AC charging limit of up to 11 kW for the UAE models covered by its support table, even though the Wall Connector hardware supports up to 22 kW.

For many overnight users, convenience, reliability, clear warranty terms and properly commissioned installation matter more than the highest headline output.

Choose equipment as a complete system with the installer. Never select protective devices, cable sizes or an electrical supply upgrade solely from a consumer comparison table.

How to compare Dubai installer quotations

Ask for a written breakdown of wallbox model number, site inspection, electrical protections, labour, cabling allowance, mounting, civil works, building approvals, testing and warranty. Compare the scope, not just the advertised charger price.

Common questions

Does a more powerful charger always reduce charging time?

No. The vehicle's onboard AC charger, property supply and charger configuration can limit the actual speed. A 22 kW rating is not a guarantee of 22 kW charging.

Can I use a Tesla Wall Connector with a different brand of EV?

Tesla UAE says Wall Connector supports most electric vehicles with a matching Type 2 charging inlet. Verify your specific car and the charger's access settings.

Should I buy the charger before the installer visits?

It's usually better to request a site survey and confirm compatibility, power, cable routing, warranty and any permissions before purchasing hardware.

Do I need a particular contractor in Dubai?

DEWA says DEWA-approved electrical contractors should be used when installing electrical equipment including residential EV chargers in Dubai.
